The daughter of the late Patricia ‘Susie’ Burke and Larry Burke the former owners of Floyd Funeral Home got her start in the funeral business after graduating from Prestonsburg High School in 1986. Under the guidance of her family she served her apprenticeship and recieved her diploma from Mid- America College of Funeral Service on August 24, 1990. On the same date she was also tested by the international conference of funeral service examining boards and was found to be proficient in all subject matters pertaining to funeral service. Traci is a Kentucky Licensed Funeral Director and Kentucky Licensed Embalmer. She was one of the first female embalmers in this area and brings over 25 years of experience to our staff.

Travis Ray Tackett, Licensed Funeral Director

The son of Harold and Patsy Tackett, began his career in the funeral business after working for Bizzack Construction and Rainbow Mobile Homes. After several years in the construction business he discovered his passion for funeral service after recieving his call to minister God’s word and decided to serve his apprenticeship. As of October, 2016 he obtained his Kentucky Funeral Director’s License. Travis is a Licensed Funeral Director, ordained minister, and notary public.

Richard “Neal” Butcher, Licensed Funeral Director

He is the son of Tammy and the late Richard Dean Butcher, the paternal grandson of Roberta and the Late Paul Butcher and maternal grandson of Hazel and the late Arlen “Paddlefoot” Shepherd Sr. Neal got his start in the funeral business as a sophomore in high school after attending the funeral service for his great- great Aunt. After gradauting from Johnson Central High School in 2012 he served his apprenticeship and went on to Mid America College of Funeral Service and graduated with an Associate of Applied Science degree on March 27, 2015. On April 2, 2015 he was tested by the international conference of funeral service examining boards and was found to be proficient in all subject matters pertaining to funeral service. Neal is a Kentucky Licensed Funeral Director, Embalmer, Licensed Insurance Agent and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Funeral Service Management.

Deborah Ann Slone Preston, Licensed Funeral Director

She is the daughter of the late Clarence and Dorothy Stambaugh Slone and the wife of Michael Clay Preston, President of Preston Funeral Home. After graduating from Flat Gap High School in 1968 she proceeded to Morehead where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in 1972, Master’s degree in 1975, and Rank 1 in 1982. Since retiring from the Paintsville School District in 2003 and other educational programs in 2008 she decided to assist her husband in the family business and started serving her apprenticeship. On July 5, 2011 she obtained her Kentucky Funeral Director’s License in addition to being the Vice President of Preston Funeral Home.

Gary is the son of the late Donald and Irene Melvin. He was graduated from Paintsville High School in 1976. He has been a Paintsville fire fighter and EMT for 19 years and spent 14 years as a 911 dispatcher. Gary has been an attendant at the funeral home since 2009 and has fulfilled his dream of assisting others and meeting people. Gary and his wife Katrina have a son and a daughter along with two beautiful grandchildren.

Matthew is the son of Michael Clay Preston and Deborah Slone Preston, graduated from Paintsville High School in 1998 and has assisted at the funeral home ever since. Matt worked in the mining industry for several years before continuing with the family business, and obtained his Funeral Director’s License in 2014. Matt now fulfills the role of Monument Specialist for Preston Funeral Home. Matt and his wife Melissa have one daughter, Madison, and reside in West Van Lear.
